The life of Hernando Sanabria Fernández, narrated from his tender beginnings in the city of Jesús y Montesclaros de los Caballeros (Vallegrande), was markedby the paternal influence and the historical legacy of his hometown. His initial training in his hometown, his childhood in Santa Cruz, his secondary and professional training in Sucre and finally in Santa Cruz, where he worked alongside leading figures and representatives of the Bolivian culture of the twentieth century. The Chaco War completed his vision of a diverse Bolivia. His work in Bolivian education allows the understanding of the lack of knowledge in terms of local history and the Bolivian lowlands in general, so he dedicated himself to the investigation of regional history. His time at the Gabriel René Moreno University, as well as at different cultural institutions, left a mark of commitment to historical and archival research. His admission to foreign cultural and academic institutions attests the quality of his work. The life and work of Hernando Sanabria Fernández are sketched in this article, trying to show the immensity and depth of the historian from Santa Cruz and his love for his country and his region, especially Vallegrande.
